What Causes Laptop Problems?

All laptop problems are either hardware, software, or internet related.

Hardware

Typical hardware issues we see at our San Jose notebook repair center include:

  • Malfunctioning fans: this leads to overheating of your system and can slow it or completely burn it out.
  • Damaged cables: cut or loose power, Ethernet, modem or other cables can shut down your computer or cause sporadic, mysterious issues.
  • Battery damage: for a variety of reasons, notebook batteries can fail to hold a charge as long as they should - or at all.
  • Glitchy keyboards: the worst culprit? Beverage spills!
  • Maxed-out memory: you are unable to save new files or download.
  • Low processing speed: it takes your computer a long time to process data or run new programs.

We have a large selection of hardware in-stock in our Bay Area laptop repair center so in most cases, we can get it switched out quickly.  Get started now by filling out our repair form.

Software

Have recently installed new software or downloaded a new program?

  • A program that worked before refuses to work or results in an error message.
  • Your computer appears to have to “think” (we call it “process”) a long time; often with no result.
  • Your screen repeatedly freezes and you have to force a restart.
  • The program seems to have installed correctly but won’t launch.
  • Functions don’t work properly.

We’ve trained extensively on troubleshooting and diagnostics and get to the root of the problem rapidly so you can get back to work.

Internet

Along with an amazing array of fun, educational, and extremely helpful applications, the Internet also opens your computer up to a host of problems:

  • Viruses.  These come in thousands of different forms and can cause all kinds of issues-from annoying pop ups, corrupting files, or completely shutting down your system.
  • Worms.  These typically attack a network and can cripple it.  Sometimes they hijack your bandwidth but they can also exploit vulnerabilities in operating systems making them work incorrectly.
  • Spyware.  This type of malware records where you go, what you look at, and even your personal information and then sends it to the one who initiated it.  It can install additional, unwanted software and even redirect your web browser to sites you don’t want to visit.

Internet threats can be extremely sophisticated and evolve rapidly.  That’s why our Bay Area laptop repair team participates in rigorous ongoing training to identify and remove viruses, worms, spyware and other types of malware.
